It has sat in the shed hiding from winter for the last 4 months, and started first try just as it did last year. It also looks like mice stayed out of the car this year, or at least out of the glovebox as I didn’t find a nest in there this time, which is nice.
The brakes are a bit grouchy but tire pressures are good, as is the oil level. I am going to do some preventative maintenance on it though. The oil filter housing and valve cover gaskets are weeping a bit ( both are common N52 problems) and I never got around to the spark plugs and air filters I meant to do last year so I’ll get that stuff ordered. I’ll look into what it takes to change the water pump preventatively while I’m in there and maybe order that too.
Beyond that, Ohlins R&T suspension is on its way , M3 rear subframe bushings, an LSD and brake upgrade (either 135i or F30 335i components) are next on the list.

Nope. BMW haven’t put an LSD in a non-M car for quite some time. ‘is’ and ‘es’ models of the e30 had them, maybe some e36s, nothing from e46 and on as far as I know.

That' s a good battery. The battery in my car is 6 years old and rated for 3, yet the test at AutoZone indicated it would be good for at least another year. Seems like the high quality ones really outperform the cheapies, especially when it involves sitting or heavy use. Heavy use in my case.

My ‘83 325e came with an optional LSD from the factory. Found it pretty funny since the original owner went with the neutered motor but the sporty axle.

My car was purchased in Mesa, AZ, and the pile of receipts indicate it spent it’s whole life in the Valley of the Sun. Maybe the LSD was there for desert runs? It was a manual too, so the guy was obviously a gear head.

Maybe they’re like me and they don’t need any help exceeding speed limits. I’d love the economics of a small engine with the chassis tuning/goodies of a performance car

One time I left the lights in my Jaguar on for about 5 hours. I was really worried but fortunately it started NBD.

If you are going to replace the gasket, replace the valve cover too

Why is that? I haven’t looked at possible complications with the job yet. I do recall you had issues related to the pcv(?) in the valve cover on yours.

Yeah with the pvc valve built into the cover it’s the best time to replace it. Also get the Felpro gaskets

All 6 cylinder z3's got them. And I think the z4 3.0si coupe (but not certain). The e46 330 got one iirc but maybe only the zhp equipped cars. I would like to think a lot of the 6 cylinder turbo cars have them but I don’t have any idea if that’s the case.

The ZHP did not get an LSD, nor did any other non-M e46. I suspect the reason the Z3 got one is because it is partially e30 based.
I think the turbo 6 cylinder cars need them with all the torque they produce but nope, not offered, n ot even the sportier models like the 335is. BMW has gone with the e-diff (brake modulation) on all non-m cars.
On a positive note, BMW did just started offering an aftermarket LSD for the M240i that you can get installed by the dealer.

I didn’t know that about the ZHP . Interestingly the z3 diffs are actually not like most BMW LSDs (clutchpack ), they are torsen type LSDs. As far as I know they are the only ones that used that type. Maybe some of the x series SUVs did too ??
